Vehicle Description
Debuting for 1982, Pontiac's third-generation Firebird Trans Am was smaller, lighter and more agile than the second-generation bird. It also was a TV star, thanks to "Night Rider". Along with its aerodynamic body with flip-up headlights, this top 'bird got a styling refresh for 1985 with beefier ground effects and a wrap-around rear spoiler that gave it a more muscular look.
Here we have a 1987 Trans Am that looks dynamite with its gorgeous body finished in the Bright Red with Silver ground effects color scheme. That high-quality respray is nicely accented with the factory-issued 16-inch alloy wheels fitted with Falken high-performance tires.
Inside, it's evident that the car was well cared for, as everything from the headliner to the door panels to the upholstery looks great. Feature highlights include the optional "Custom" interior trim with multi-adjustable seats, A/C, tilt wheel, cruise control, power windows and a high-end Pioneer / Rockford Fosgate AM/FM/CD audio system.
Under the vented hood is a 5.0-liter, 4-barrel V8 that sends the power to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. Out on the road, this Trans Am moves out smoothly, with the soundtrack that only a V8 can provide. These third-gen Trans Ams were known as some of the best handling cars of their time, providing plenty of driving enjoyment on your favorite twisty roads.
This ‘bird checks all the boxes as it’s in great shape, doesn’t have a ton of miles and is a blast to drive. If you want a sharp '80s icon and don’t want to spend big bucks, it’s hard to beat this one.
